Tech Prep Tuesday Central Texas Tech Prep Consortium Transition and Transfer September 12, 2006 Register now for a Counselor and CTE Workshop September 27 Keynote speaker for this workshop/luncheon will be Greg Shipp, president of The Career and Technology Association of Texas (CTAT). Following lunch, Dr. Janet Duben-Engelkirk and Katie Burrows will discuss the Temple College Biotechnology Program and give an update on the Texas Bioscience Institute. Also, Billy Hazzard will discuss Central Texas Colleges Industrial Technology programs. The workshop is scheduled for 10:00 AM 2:45 PM in the Trinity Room at the Hilton Garden Inn in Temple. Cost will be $20 and include lunch. National Tech Prep Network (NTPN) Annual Conference Scheduled for November The fifteenth annual conference of the National Tech Prep Network will be November 1-4 at the Adams Mark Hotel in Dallas. Established in 1991, the NTPN is an alliance of teachers, administrators, counselors, employers, and community leaders dedicated to the advancement of Tech Prep, Career Pathways, and related initiatives in education reform. For additional information about the conference, please see the following website: http://www.cord.org. A limited amount of funding is available for consortium partners to attend the conference. If you are interested in attending and would like to apply for funding, please send a letter of request to Consortium Director Sherry Hollinger by October 2. Funding will be on a reimbursement basis only and the amount will be determined by the number of applicants. At this writing, it appears unlikely that there will be a state conference in the spring, so this would be a wonderful opportunity to attend a national conference right here in Texas. ============

Tech Prep Tuesday Central Texas Tech Prep Consortium Transition and Transfer August 29, 2006 Tech Prep Ambassador Program Central Texas Tech Prep Consortium will feature the Tech Prep Ambassador Program for the 2006/2007 school year. The timeline for the program has been revised and a letter describing the program has been sent to consortium area superintendents. Responses are due back to the consortium office by September 8. Students participating in the Tech Prep Ambassador program promote Tech Prep and CTE among their peers and in the community. Ambassadors receive training in presentation skills and the opportunity to compete for scholarships to area colleges. For more information, contact Misty Harrell at 254.298.8483. Advanced Technical Credit (ATC/statewide) Training The last opportunity to attend staff development for the ATC program and have it count for the 2006/2007 school year will be at the Heart of Texas Tech Prep Consortium Articulation Summit September 12-14 at TSTC in Waco. Central Texas Tech Prep Consortium will pay substitute reimbursement (up to $50 per teacher per day) for teachers from member districts. Contact Sherry Hollinger at 254.298.8482 for more details. Theresa Spangler of Georgia presented a three day workshop for Consortium members June 13-15, 2006, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Temple. Ms. Spangler discussed differences in work issues between Generation X and previous generations. Contextual learning modules were covered as well as a unit on technical writing. Each attendee presented a lesson plan or project to the group at the end of the workshop. Attendees were from the school districts of Belton, Copperas Cove, Gatesville, Killeen and Temple.    ============ |
