Wilsonart International and CTTPC present Workplace Skills Training for Educators
(posted March 2004)
Wilsonart International in partnership Central Texas Tech Prep Consortium are presenting workplace skills training for area educators for the fifth year.

Five area educators attended a training session with Wilsonart staff members on February 26, 2004, at the Temple South Plant. The Wilsonart Training and Development workshops are designed to train Wilsonart's staff in vital workplace competencies. Educators are invited as participants so they can better understand the world of work and its demands and to help students better prepare for the workforce. Educators are expected to take workplace ideas and concepts experienced in the workshop and translate them into ideas for the classroom.

Titled "Interaction Essentials", the workshop helped participants develop the ability to get results through effective interpersonal relationships. Participants learned how to use effective interaction skills, key principles, and feedback to get things done through others.

Upcoming workshops in the series this year include "Influential Leadership" scheduled for March 31, 2004, and "Dealing with Difficult People" on May 11, 2004. Educators interested in attending should call the Consortium office at 254-298-8482 to see if places are available. The Consortium reimburses participating districts up to $50 per day per person for substitute teacher pay.

Thirty ISD Career and Technology Teachers attend ATC Program
(posted February 2004)
The Central Texas Tech Prep Consortium hosted a very successful Advanced Technical Credit (ATC) Professional Development Program on the Temple College campus February 18, 2004.

Thirty ISD Career and Technology teachers representing thirteen Central Texas School Districts attended. Districts sending teachers to the training included Academy, Belton, Florence, Gatesville, Hamilton, Hutto, Killeen, Marble Falls, Rogers, Salado, Temple, Thorndale and Thrall.

The ATC Program is an advanced placement program for students interested in preparing for college and a technical career that requires post-secondary education. ATC is a joint initiative of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Texas Education Agency that is designed to increase collegiate options and opportunities for students while maximizing resources and minimizing duplication of effort. The program facilitates the use of articulated credit in colleges across the state, and standardizes the articulation process for students, schools, and colleges.

Dr. Talma Botts, Pat Clune, Dr. Gary Coutu, Sharon Drahn, Joe Teakell, Hal Ward, and Carlye Weber of the Temple College faculty and Richard Hindman of the Central Texas College faculty assisted with the certification process. S. Chuck McCarter, Director of the Consortium, stated that "this process cannot be successful without the cooperation and support of the college faculty. We believe that because of their involvement students from Central Texas will have a greater opportunity to attend college and gain a skill that will provide them with a livable wage and future opportunities for success".

(posted February 2004)
The Central Texas Tech Prep Consortium and Temple College hosted the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s Regional “College For Texans/GO Kit” train-the-trainer workshop held January 27 in the Community Room of One College Centre. More than thirty representatives from several Central Texas organizations, independent school districts, and higher education institutions attended. This is the second year for the regional workshops conducted across the state by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The campaign is a statewide effort to send more Texans to college by informing the population of the benefits of higher education and how to prepare for it both financially and academically.
