CTE Industry Certifications

The Industry Certification Guide for 2007 has been prepared by the Career and Technical Education (CTE) staff of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) as a resource for educators, industry partners, and parents. Certification opportunities are one avenue through which CTE fulfills its goals under the state law. According to the guide, “before offering certifications, districts should consult with local business and industry partners to determine which certifications or licensures would be most valued by local employers. In some instances, certain certifications may be best accomplished in partnership with postsecondary programs”. To access the guide, please go to the following link:

Local Articulation Workshop

According to the 2008-2013 State Plan for Career and Technical Education, ‘beginning in fall of 2008, each secondary school district must implement a program under which students may earn the equivalent of at least 12 semester credit hours of college credit in high school.’ Students may earn college credit by taking AP, IB, and dual credit courses, including local and statewide articulated courses.

The new Perkins IV law requires that local articulation agreements be reviewed annually. In an effort to assist secondary institutions with the state’s plan and comply with Perkins IV, the Central Texas Tech Prep Consortium is organizing a Local Articulation Meeting on Thursday, November 8th from 1:30 – 3:30 pm at Central Texas College in Killeen, TX. This will be an opportunity for area teachers to meet college faculty and establish or update articulation agreements for their students. College faculty and secondary teachers will look at individual course objectives in an attempt to align secondary curriculum with college course standards so that students will be able to receive college credit for career and technical courses.

Teachers and counselors within the Central Texas Tech Prep Consortium are welcome to attend the articulation workshop; however, secondary teachers are encouraged to be present when meeting with the college faculty. The consortium will provide member district’s teachers up to $50 per teacher per day for substitute reimbursement. Teachers that are interested in registering for the local articulation workshop should email Misty Harrell at mharrell@templejc.edu with the following information:

1. Name of District
2. Name of Individual, and position
3. CTE course area (example: Business)
4. Specific courses needing articulation agreements (example: BCIS, Business Management, Business Ownership, and Accounting)
NOTE: These are courses that are currently being taught or could be taught in the future

For additional information please contact Misty Harrell at 254.298.8483 or via email at mharrell@templejc.edu.
