CATEMA (Career and Technology Education Management Application)

CATEMA is a web-based application designed to identify Career & Technology students who may have Tech Prep articulated credit in escrow. Those teachers participating in CATEMA have either received an Advance Technical Credit (ATC) certification or their district has a local agreement with an area college.

Students will create an account and register for the Career & Technology courses they are taking. Teachers enter their students’ grades and give their recommendation for college credit. In order to recommend college credit the student must have earned an 80 or better.

Students who attend either Central Texas College or Temple College have college accounts that allow college Advisors to see the Career & Technology courses the student took, as well as whether or not the student was recommended for college credit. CATEMA is a great way to identify students with articulated credit once they register for classes in college. Because the credit may be in escrow requiring the student to complete coursework with the college before the credit is articulated, many students often forget they have the credit and may end up repeating the course they will get articulated. CATEMA helps to identify these students to college Advisors who will make sure they are advised appropriately.

Our consortium provides each participating school district with several reports in which they can use to help in coding students.

Who is participating in CATEMA?

The 2006 – 2007 school year will be our third year using CATEMA. We are happy to report that several of our district partners are using CATEMA. It is a relatively simple program and there is no cost to your district. If your district is interested in participating in CATEMA, please contact Misty Harrell, Outreach Coordinator, at 254.298.8483 or via email at mharrell@templejc.edu.

Current CATEMA participants

I hope you all are starting your school year off on a good note! I wanted to send a reminder to those of you participating to let you know that CATEMA is ready for the 2006 – 2007 school year; so you can now begin entering classes. If you have any new teachers in your district or know of someone who could benefit from CATEMA, please pass this information along to them.

Partnership Agreements and Fall Visits

Partnership Agreements for the 2006-2007 year were mailed to consortium partner contacts earlier this month. Please complete and return the agreements (if you haven’t already) to the consortium as soon as possible. Members are eligible to participate in consortium services and activities including professional development opportunities and funding for conferences and subgrants.

Staff members are currently scheduling appointments to visit all partners during the months of September, October and November. During the visits, opportunities for the current year will be discussed and new materials will be distributed.

Tech Prep Subgrants for 2006-2007

The time is approaching to begin the Tech Prep subgrant process for this year. Packets with information about the subgrant opportunities will be mailed the first week of October to the Tech Prep contact at each district or college. It will be up to the contacts to distribute the information to others in the district. The turn around time to submit applications will be very short this year with proposals due to the Tech Prep office by October 25.

National Tech Prep Network (NTPN) Annual Conference Scheduled for November

The fifteenth annual conference of the National Tech Prep Network will be November 1-4 at the Adams Mark Hotel in Dallas. A limited amount of funding is available for consortium partners to attend the conference. If you are interested in attending and would like to apply for funding, please send a letter of request to Consortium Director Sherry Hollinger by October 2. Funding will be on a reimbursement basis only and the amount will be determined by the number of applicants.

At this writing, it appears unlikely that there will be a state conference in the spring, so this would be a wonderful opportunity to attend a national conference right here in Texas.
